Welcome to Panola County Amateur Radio Club

Here you will find information about amateur radio activities in the Panola County area.  PCARC is a group of licensed amateur radio operators who meet regularly with a common goal:  exchange ideas, improve operating skills, organize activities, and provide public service such as emergency radio communications for local, regional, and national needs in time of disaster.  Our purpose is to promote amateur radio and bring together those who have a mutual interest.   We pledge our services as trained emergency communications radio operators, utilizing the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, to Carthage, Panola County, and the surrounding area of deep East Texas.

Amateur radio is a fun and exciting hobby.  There are various modes of operating, from morse code to voice to digital.  It’s not just about working emergencies.  You can participate in a contest or just talk “DX” to an operator half around the world.  And all without a cell phone or internet connection!  So come on, join the fun.

This site is always changing, so check back often for updates and announcements.

Repeater:  147.18 t123.0

Carthage, Texas

Text Box:

The PCARC Ragchew Net meets on each Tuesday, except the 2nd Tuesday (meeting night), on the 147.18 repeater at 7pm. All stations are welcome to check in.

Almost there!  The EOC is one step closer to being in full operation.  We have been meeting there for the past 3 or 4 months.  An operating desk has been built to house numerous radios and digital equipment, computers, and printers.  Antennas have been installed on top of the building and coax has been ran.  Most recently, with the help of David KA5HSA, the coax ends were installed and soldered.  Del N5IKB was the first contact made from WA5PC on 2m.  Pat checked into the 7290 net on HF.  Now we are looking for a pc and some operators!

Our next step is to thoroughly check out the equipment to make sure it is working properly and to make sure the antennas are operating at maximum performance.  When it where we want it to be, we will have an “Open House” and invite the local public officials and dignitaries to see our EOC in operation.

We want you to come be a part of all this.  Attendance has been really good at the meetings, with as many as 12 members at some of the meetings.  Don’t forget, spouses are welcome to attend as well.  You never know, they may get bitten by the “HAM” bug!

Stay tuned for more to come as we continue in this endeavor.  We WILL be ready for a communications drill, exercise, or real circumstance very soon.

We Meet Again Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the Carthage Civic Center in the EOC at 7:00pm. See you there!!
